Welcome period!

Not until the last couple of months was I aware that periods could be a breeze. All my matured life, I dreaded these cycles. It brought so much negativity physically and mentally. Sorry TMI. I hate the heavy flow days. You're crampy and all over the place with a grumpy mood. This, we were told, is the norm and there were no alternatives. All the sanitary pad adverts showed us how women wearing white pants or hot pants were happy and worry free and achieved greater things in life during those times just because they felt liberated with these pads. So untrue. Everytime I wore a pad, I was so worried of staining my clothes and even the sofa or bed or whatever I sat on for longer hours. I've had some embarrassing stain episodes in school, college and even office. Yes I was told it happens and these are okay to live with. All you need during your periods is a jacket that you can use to cover the mess up if any. And yes, the most irritating feeling is the gush of blood when you stand up after sitting for a long time.

So much trouble for self and no it does not one bit of good to the Earth either. All those pads with gel absorbers end up in oceans and seas and water sources killing the aqua life and resulting in some deadly streaks of bacteria. Using cloth for menstruation wasn't a new thing to a country like ours. We were told in schools that sanitary napkins were more hygienic. What they failed to tell me was that I am generating so much of toxic waste in addition to exposing myself to deadly chemicals that the companies don't even want to list.

I've been researching a lot about the alternatives I could use. Surprisingly, in this world of internet where information is all over the place, there was nothing much about how sustainability could be achieved in better ways. Probably the articles were suppressed by the money-minded businessmen? I'm not sure.

But then thankfully, I met my best friend. Meet Ms.Menstrual cup. She made my periods so much more better for me. Was always by my side. Helped me carry on with life just like a normal day. I look forward to my periods because of her. I care not about staining anything around me. I care not about generating 10 dirty pads that are going to sit around in garbage dumps for hundreds of years trying to spread nothing but suffering. I didn't trust her initially. I was intimidated by her. But hey, I always am judgemental when I meet new friends. This is probably the best decision I have ever made. We should have ideally met about 20 years ago. But heck, you don't find good friends so easy. Am I proud of being myself? You bet! If you're a man reading this, please discuss with your better half or mother or sister about how sustainable their periods can be if you think they are still unaware of such a thing. If you're a woman, you should definitely befriend Ms.Menstrual cup. She's gonna love you and you're gonna love her back even more! Happy period dear ladies!!
